Simon Edvinsson has not played a game since the end of the 2025-26 NHL season in April, and he will not play in 2026-27 unless Detroit signs him or trades him to a club that will before December 1, 2026.
Simon Edvinsson reported to the Red Wings camp without a contract and practiced with the club, but never scrimmaged or played a preseason game. He went home to Sweden in late September and skated with Frolunda. On Oct. 3, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Saturday Headlines that Edvinsson would prefer a trade out of Detroit.
On Nov. 5, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period said interest in Simon Edvinsson has picked up steam, and the San Jose Sharks are among one of the teams pushing hardest. Pagnotta said accounts differ on how Michael Misa’s name entered the talks: some say Detroit asked for the 2025 No. 2 pick, others say San Jose offered him. A straight Misa-for-Edvinsson swap would not satisfy Detroit.
“… The interest is always there, but it’s really picked up steam… Depending who you talk to, Detroit asked for Misa. Others will say San Jose offered up Misa… What I do know is it would take more, from Detroit’s perspective, than just Misa to part with Edvinsson. That seems to be the situation right now between these two clubs: that Detroit is looking for more than Misa in exchange for Edvinsson. I think the Sharks would be comfortable with one for one. It doesn’t sound right now, coming into today, like that’s enough,” reported Pagnotta on DFO Insider.
Even TSN’s Darren Dreger reported the Red Wings want more than Misa.
Simon Edvinsson was spotted practicing in Nashville amid ongoing stalemate with Red Wings
Dustin Smith, a former Predators emergency backup goaltender, posted video on Instagram on Nov. 5 of Simon Edvinsson running drills and shooting pucks in full gear at Centennial Sportsplex, the Predators’ practice facility. Edvinsson wore Red Wings gear and commented on the post:
“Great to be out there with ya.”
A Predators spokesperson called the skate a “private ice rental” and said the club “would not comment on any other team’s players.” He is represented by CAA, which has a Nashville office.
“Would it shock me if they’ve met? No. Is it legal if they’ve met? Yes. Has anyone told me they’ve met? No. Does Nashville remain very interested in Edvinsson? I believe the answer is yes,” said Friedman.
Friedman said on Nashville radio on Oct. 29 that the Predators are in on Simon Edvinsson.
The Nashville Predators have been busy on the trade market. They recently traded for Shane Wright from the Seattle Kraken for Matthew Wood. GM Chris MacFarland has said upgrading the blue line is a priority, and he holds four first-round picks over the next three drafts, which could be the starting point of satisfaction for the Red Wings to move Edvinsson to Nashville.
