The Dylan Larkin saga has a fresh development, and it landed on the same answer as the last one. According to Pierre LeBrun, the Detroit Red Wings asked Larkin’s camp to further expand his 10-team trade list, which had initially started at 3.
Per LeBrun, the Detroit Red Wings had explored the 10 approved destinations and could not find a trade return that made sense. Interim GM Horcoff wanted more room to work the six to eight teams outside the list, including teams like the Canadiens, Bruins, Kings and Sabres.
“The Red Wings have told Larkin’s camp, ‘Listen, we feel like we’ve exhausted every option here with these 10 teams on his list, and we’re just not there with a trade that makes sense for us. But we’d like to go deeper in talks with six to eight other teams outside his list,’” LeBrun said on TSN’s Insider Trading.
Dylan Larkin’s agent, Pat Brisson, gave a laser sharp refusal.
“… but Larkin’s camp led by agent Pat Brisson has told the Red Wings, ‘No. We gave you 10 teams, which was more than the three teams we gave you at the beginning. You can work with those 10 teams.'”, added LeBrun.
Dylan Larkin asked out in the offseason after the Red Wings missed the playoffs for a 10th straight season, and the club pulled his captaincy on Sept. 11. He reported to camp anyway, missed two games with an injury, heard boos from fans at the home opener, and put up six points in 10 games.
But on Oct. 29 Larkin declared he would not play again until he was traded.
Why the Red Wings want a wider market to trade Dylan Larkin
The 10 teams on Dylan Larkin’s current list include the Panthers, Wild, Golden Knights, Stars, Capitals, Hurricanes, Mammoth, Lightning, Devils and Avalanche.
During a presser after Larkin’s holdout announcement, interim GM Horcoff said:
“With the teams that Dylan has on his list, it’s difficult to get something done. There probably are certain teams in the League that, if they were on his list, it would be easier for us to come to a deal and come to an agreement. But unfortunately, at this point, we’re not there yet.”
Dylan Larkin loses $41,237.11 a day in fines after being suspended by the Red Wings for failure to report to the team.
