Paul Wight says current AEW commentator is a “complete piece of trash”

Paul Wight has just taken shots at one of his co-workers in AEW during a recent interview. He has fired shots at one of his peers on the commentary desk, claiming they were trash.

The former WWE Champion is one of the latest additions to the promotion’s commentary team. Originally, he would only make sporadic appearances on the desk, but he has now become a mainstay on Collision alongside Tony Schiavone and Nigel McGuinness. He now also works on pay-per-views, even having a wholesome moment with Chris Jericho a few weeks ago at WrestleDream.

During an interview on First Coast Living, Paul Wight spoke about working commentary and how he placed high value on this aspect of wrestling. The veteran then talked about his peers on the desk and fired shots at Nigel McGuinness. The two of them often banter during shows, so this comment does not come as a surprise.

“That’s why I love the commentary. The commentary has been absolutely fantastic, other than my partner Nigel, who’s a complete piece of trash. But Tony Schiavone is amazing. Nigel, piece of trash. But other than that, it’s been fantastic to try to bridge that connection between the guys and gals in the ring and to our audience at home watching.” [1:38-1:58]

Paul Wight has hinted at bringing back an old character

During a recent interview on Going Ringside, Paul Wight was asked this time around about an old character of his, Captain Insano, who he played in the 1998 film The Waterboy.

Wight was asked whether there was a chance that this iconic persona would make its way to TV. The AEW veteran confirmed that this has all still been in the works, as he wanted to present this in the best way possible.

“You son of a gun. Captain is a lot of fun. We’re still working on that, actually. I have a lot of fun with it. Of course, that character was iconic in the movie The Waterboy. I’m going through a lot of hard work to bring that character out, to present that character in its best possible format. We might need to update the uniform, though. I don’t know. The stars are cool, but we need to update the gear somehow. So, we’ll work on it,” he said. [H/T – Ringside News]

Despite not being an active in-ring competitor, it seems that Paul Wight has found his footing on the commentary desk. He adds a great dynamic to the team on AEW Collision and is a good addition to the color commentator pool alongside the likes of Taz and Bryan Danielson.
