A new report has surfaced that explains a fan-favorite AEW star’s prolonged absence from the Jacksonville-based promotion.
The star in question is Komander. The Mexican luchador joined AEW in 2023 on the strength of his reputation for mind-boggling high-flying technique. The 28-year-old went on to do well in the sister company ROH, becoming the ROH World Television Champion that year. After spending the second half of 2025 injured, followed by visa issues, Komander returned in July 2026 and delivered one of his best showings at All In 2026 in the Men’s Casino Gauntlet match, though he eventually lost to Andrade.
Komander was then seen in action on the September 2 episode of Collision, where he lost to Nick Wayne. Afterward, he disappeared from AEW programming once again. A new report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON) has now provided details on his absence. According to the report, the Mexican Luchador is dealing with a new injury, hence the ongoing hiatus. The report also noted that the promotion hopes to have him back soon.
Komander chose AEW over WWE back in 2023
Prior to joining AEW, Komander earned his stripes on the Mexican independent circuit and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. He was so impressive that he caught the attention of both the Jacksonville-based promotion and WWE. Eventually, he chose All Elite Wrestling, and Dave Meltzer contemplated why the Mexican luchador did that. Speaking on an edition of his WON, the analyst said:
“Komander really made sense because [All Elite Wrestling] generally offers far more to guys of that level as WWE would be expected to put him on an NXT deal with the idea that if you do make the main roster, you’ll get good money, and there’s no guarantee of that main roster, and probably not for years.”
Komander is one of the best high-flying wrestlers in the world today, and at 28, he is in his prime. It will be interesting to see what Tony Khan will have planned for his Mexican luchador once he returns to action. Hopefully his current injury isn’t as bad as his 2025 leg injury, which kept him out for months.
