San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has not played in the NFL since 2024. However, he has hired NFL agent Drew Rosenhaus in a bid to make his return.
Aiyuk has not played in the league since tearing the ACL, MCL and meniscus in his right knee in October 2024. Rosenhaus told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday that he is “working on getting (Aiyuk) back” to the NFL.

“Somebody running out of money lol,” wrote a fan.
“The egomania is stupefying. Dude is set for life, but he couldn’t follow the few rules the Niners had while he was in rehab,” wrote a fan.
“Drew is an excellent agent. My guess is he’ll do more to help Aiyuk than just secure his next contract. Brandon needs some serious professional guidance. Hiring him was the smartest thing he’s done yet,” wrote a fan.
“Rosenhaus is already warming up his driveway voice,” wrote another fan.
“Drew is taking any dollar or headline he can. Just like a politician,” wrote a fan.
“Drew Rosenhaus trying to walk into John Lynch’s office to discuss Aiyuk’s future,” wrote a fan.
The hold-up is procedural as much as anything. Aiyuk has to apply to the NFL for reinstatement before the 49ers can move him, and there was no confirmation on Monday that he had filed.
Washington is the only destination Aiyuk has publicly pushed for, but it is unclear whether the Commanders still have room after signing Stefon Diggs.

Brandon Aiyuk has not played in the league since his fallout
Brandon Aiyuk’s last snap came against the Kansas City Chiefs in October 2024. He tore the ACL, MCL and meniscus in his right knee in the game. He had signed a four-year, $120 million extension that year with $76 million guaranteed to end a hold-in.
The relationship broke down during his rehab. In July 2025, the 49ers voided roughly $27 million in guaranteed money, with ESPN reporting the team cited skipped rehab sessions and check-ins. Aiyuk stopped showing up at the facility, and in December 2025 San Francisco placed him on the reserve/left squad list. He is not being paid and does not count against the 49ers’ roster.
Once Aiyuk is reinstated, San Francisco decides what to do with his rights. General manager John Lynch said in January the team was moving on from the wide receiver.
