WWE stars have it tough when they are in the spotlight, and with social media now, it seems that opinions can be shared online by faceless accounts.
Current Women’s Evolve Champion Nikkita Lyons recently spoke out about how there is an assumption about how she joined WWE, while appearing on Booker T’s Hall of Fame podcast.
Thanks for the submission!
“Expect the unexpected, first of all. I’m always going to do my best to come with something different, come with something new. You’re learning while I’m learning. This is a whole evolution happening in front of people’s eyes. But all the little assumptions or whatever, like, ‘She’s just here because of her body. She’s just here because of that.’ You can go ahead and think that, but I’m going to prove to you what I’m really here to do.” she stated.
It seems that women appear to have a lot more abuse from fans because of their bodies, something that Lyons was also able to comment on, something she has worked through herself.
“There were many struggles growing up in the entertainment industry, especially as a thicker girl. It’s always been like, ‘You’re too tall for this role.’ I’ve been 5’8″ since I was 12 years old. ‘You’re too thick for this role. You should dye your hair. You’ll never be the hot girl. All this stuff going in my 12-year-old brain and on. There’s definitely bullying at school, a lot of online bullying, which still happens, but your girl has built that rhino-thick skin now.” she noted.
Many women’s wrestlers in WWE have spoken out about fan issues
While Nikkita Lyons has overcome so many comments from fans to make a name for herself in WWE, there are others who have spoken out about this too.
The likes of Nia Jax and Lash Legend have been exposed to fan comments for much of their careers, while fans claim that Jax has only gotten the role in WWE because of her family.
Jax is a member of The Bloodline and has been forced to overcome these issues her entire career, in the same way that Natalya and Charlotte Flair did before her.
