With the promotions getting into full swing, Rockstar Games has finally confirmed the pre-loading date for GTA 6. The digital download will become available two days before November 12, 2026, the date for physical code-in-box copies. This will give players time to download the huge files without having to wait until the last minute to finish the download.
Below you can see the pre-loading date of GTA 6 for each platform, the storage space required for the download, and the process to get it started on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
GTA 6 pre-load date and time for PS5 and Xbox
Rockstar Games confirmed the schedule in its latest newswire announcement. Digital pre-loading begins on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, although the exact timing differs between platforms.
Here is when players can start downloading the game:
- PS5: Pre-loading begins at midnight local time on November 10, 2026. Players can start the download as soon as the date changes in their respective time zones.
- Xbox Series X|S: Pre-loading starts globally at 12:00 a.m. GMT on November 10, 2026.
- Physical code-in-box editions: Retailers will make these copies available from November 12, 2026. Players can redeem the included digital code and begin downloading the game.
GTA 6 pre-load size: How much storage is required?
One thing to be aware of is the download size. Depending on your device, you may need up to 212GB of storage to download the GTA 6 pre-load. This is quite a large amount of space, so you should check how much storage you have before it goes live.

How to pre-load GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
Pre-loading on either console requires buying the digital edition, or redeeming a digital code from a boxed version, and turning on automatic downloads.
PS5
Once the digital pre-order is active on your account, follow these steps:
- Check your storage: Make sure at least 212 GB is free on the PS5 internal SSD. Delete unused games or media if needed.
- Enable auto-download: Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Automatic Downloads and turn Auto-Download on. To let the download run while the console is off, go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode, then enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.
- Start the pre-load: Digital pre-loading begins at midnight local time on Tuesday, November 10, 2026. Open your Game Library, select Your Collection, and find the Grand Theft Auto VI tile you pre-ordered. Select the game, check the pre-installation timer or option, and choose Download, or set it to download automatically.
Xbox Series X|S
To pre-load on Xbox, follow these steps:
- Pre-order the game: Open the Microsoft Store on your console, or use the Xbox Official Store. Search for Grand Theft Auto VI, pick the Standard or Ultimate Edition, and complete the pre-order.
- Enable pre-installation: Go to My Games & Apps > Full Library > All Owned Games. Select GTA 6 and choose Install or Pre-install, which becomes available once pre-loading goes live on November 10 at 12:00 a.m. GMT.
- Turn on automatic updates (optional): Go to Settings > System > Updates and make sure “Keep my games & apps up to date” is enabled, so the placeholder file or pre-release patches download automatically.

Rockstar is also preparing free GTA 6 artwork
In addition to confirming the pre-load announcement, Rockstar has also confirmed that players will be able to download an official print poster featuring the GTA 6 cover art and map of Leonida from its website on November 19, 2026.

Those who prefer a physical copy of the artwork will have another option shortly after launch. Rockstar plans to sell a double-sided version of the poster through the Rockstar Store.
The physical poster will be priced at $0.99, but can also be obtained as a gift with any purchase from the Rockstar Store.
