Before Game 3 of the World Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, Mariano Rivera made an appearance on FOX Sports’ pre-game coverage.
A 13-time All-Star and five-time World Series champion, Rivera is one of the finest relievers in MLB history, and he tipped his hat to arguably the most outstanding reliever of this year’s postseason – Aaron Ashby of the Milwaukee Brewers.
“That man reminds me of myself,” Rivera said. “That man is nasty. When that man’s on the mound, I say, ‘Man, this game’s over.’ That’s (how) nasty that man is. So good. As a pitcher, and as a guy from the bullpen, seeing a guy like that, you appreciate baseball.”

Playing a starring role in his team’s superb run to the World Series, Ashby has now pitched 18 scoreless innings in the postseason so far, setting the MLB record for the longest scoreless streak in a single postseason by a reliever.
“I don’t feel tired or fatigued in the postseason” – Brewers star Aaron Ashby reveals how he keeps up with gruelling postseason pitching demands
With important games coming in quick succession, Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy has called upon Aaron Ashby quite often this postseason, and the reliever has always answered the call.
Speaking to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo, he revealed how he manages to keep up with the gruelling demands of pitching day in, day out in the postseason, while still remaining as consistent as ever.
“I feel like we’ve built a solid foundation over the course of this season to have that volume to go out every night and do that,” Ashby said. “I don’t necessarily feel tired or fatigued in the postseason. When the crowd’s in it how they are, it’s pretty easy to feel loose.”

Having swept the reigning champions, the LA Dodgers, in the NLCS, Aaron Ashby and his team are now one win away from winning a first World Series championship in franchise history.
