Distance from Roma Termini Station: 2-minute walk

The rooms and suites at Palazzo Montemartini are sleek and modern, with smooth lines and curved edges. Furnishings are modular with Italian flair—not only did the bed in my suite appear to hover above the ground, but the headboard, bedside tables, and bed base were made entirely from one piece of white leather. Suites are decorated in a neutral, mostly white palette—a pleasing contrast to the building’s ancient bones and chaotic train station hubbub outside. The hotel itself is housed in a 19th-century grand palazzo opposite Roma Termini Station, previously a transport company headquarters. The hotel restaurant, Senses, is open all day; at lunch and dinner, the menu is mostly Italian, with excellent Asian-influenced main courses. Downstairs, you’ll find the large subterranean Thalea Spa, inspired by the nearby Diocletian Baths. It includes a steam room, sauna, salt room, chromotherapy area, swimming pool, and hot tub.
