“They lose their jobs to save Brian Cashman’s” – Fans rip Yankees for parting ways with GM’s assistants

The New York Yankees were eliminated by the Tampa Bay Rays in this year’s postseason, and their long wait for another World Series championship goes on.

In the aftermath of the unsuccessful season, the organization has decided to refrain from renewing the contracts of Omar Minaya and Brian Sabean, who acted as special assistants to GM Brian Cashman.

Insider Jon Heyman of the New York Post informed fans of the development via X on Saturday.

“The Yankees aren’t renewing the contracts Omar Minaya and Brian Sabean, who served as special assistants to GM Brian Cashman, via sources. Minaya is the former Mets GM, Sabean the Giants GM in their heyday,” Heyman posted.

Reacting, several fans ripped into the Bronx Bombers and Cashman on social media.

“They lose their jobs to save Cashman’s. Go figure,” a fan wrote.

“It’s everyone’s fault, except for Cashman. Make it make sense,” another fan commented.

“Did not work out. Cashman didn’t listen,” another fan replied.

“Well, that oughta lock in at the 28th championship,” another fan responded.

“Cashman is able to find a few scapegoats each season without ever paying a price himself,” another fan shared.

“Scapegoats for Cashman’s continued shortcomings as GM,” another fan posted.

“Cash is great every season” – Yankees chairman praises Brian Cashman’s work

While fans have their fair share of complaints with Brian Cashman, it appears New York Yankees chairman Hal Steinbrenner is happy with how the executive runs things. During a press conference that took place on Oct. 21, Steinbrenner praised Cashman’s work.

“Cash is great every season,” Steinbrenner said. “The team that we rolled out of Spring Training with was as good as any in baseball, in my opinion. We had a lot of bumps and bruises along the way, but the team was fantastic, and it was a world championship-caliber team.”

Cashman is set to continue as baseball’s longest-tenured GM in 2027, his 30th season in the role.
