In the clip, Brunson appeared to attempt a layup but couldn’t keep his balance and fell onto the official. She then tried to grab him, putting her arm around the guard’s waist. However, the momentum of her arms slid toward his lower extremities, creating an awkward moment that fans seemed to enjoy.
Many reacted to the clip, offering hilarious takes on the awkward exchange.
“This is why the Knicks lost 😂,” a fan wrote.
“@HaterReport she patted him four times? And went lower each time???? wowee zowee,” another fan joked.
Fans continued to grill the ref and Brunson, with many joking they would have done the same in that position.
“She did what the entire city of New York would in the same position,” a fan remarked.
While fans had a field day teasing the pair, the game itself was entertaining. The 76ers hosted the Knicks in the NBA Cup and earned a hard-fought 98-93 victory over the reigning champs.
Brunson put on a strong display, dropping 24 points, but the 76ers were prepared and neutralized his attack, with four of the five Philly starters scoring in double digits.
Jalen Brunson addresses the Knicks’ loss to the 76ers as their resurgence comes to a halt
The New York Knicks had just begun to find their footing after three straight defeats to start the season. However, their two-game win streak ended on Saturday as the 76ers defeated them in the NBA Cup.
While the resurgence was cut short, the Knicks put on a strong display as Jalen Brunson reflected on the performance after the game.
“Just a little careless,” Brunson said. “Sometimes it can be us being hesitant as well, wanting to make the right play, but also not trying to turn over, and then just a little late to our decision-making. Could be a lot of things, but obviously we gotta clean it up.”
The Knicks head home for a two-game stretch next as they hope to get back on track to defend their title.
