Villarreal face their biggest UEFA Champions League test to date this Tuesday. The Spanish side will welcome reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain to the Estadio de la Ceramica.

- Villarreal have never faced off with Paris Saint-Germain on the European stage before. They did play in last season’s UEFA Champions League, but did not even face French opposition in their eight matches in the competition.
- It’s fair to say that Villarreal’s UEFA Champions League campaign last season was a disaster. They only collected one point in their eight matches, drawing at home with Juventus, and lost to their other seven opponents, including Tottenham, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax. Their win over Napoli this season means they’ve already beaten their previous points total in the same competition.
- Paris Saint-Germain, meanwhile, have picked up where they left off after winning last season’s UEFA Champions League. They’ve reeled off three wins in three matches, beating Slovan Bratislava, Manchester City and Barcelona, scoring 14 goals in the process.
- PSG have also picked things up domestically in recent weeks. They’re now riding a six-game winning streak, and demolished Le Havre on Friday, winning 1-5 thanks to goals from Mika Godts, Senny Mayulu and a hat-trick from Achraf Hakimi.
- Villarreal, on the other hand, fell to a defeat at the hands of Espanyol on Friday. They have now won just one of their last four domestic matches, and have not picked up a victory at home since before the last international break.
Villarreal vs Paris Saint-Germain Prediction
Villarreal can already say that their European campaign this season is better than their previous one purely because they’ve won a match this time. However, the chances of them winning here seem very slim.
Paris Saint-Germain are missing a couple of key players through injury, but their squad is still remarkably talented, particularly in attack, and they’re in phenomenal form, blowing opponents away and scoring freely.
With this considered, then, anything other than a routine PSG win would be a stunner.
