Welsh rugby brawl erupts as ref storms off

A Welsh rugby match was abandoned after fighting broke out between the two sets of players.

The Admiral National League 4 East Central clash between Tonyrefail and Ynysowen was abandoned on Wednesday evening, with Ynysowen leading 15-8 at the time.

Video footage shows the referee calling a halt to proceedings and marching off the field.

However, the two sides continued to come together.

Punches were eventually thrown between the two sets of players as the fight escalated.

“Oh, here we go,” shouted a voice behind the camera as things intensified on the pitch.

“Leave it… F****g game’s gone,” shouted another as some tried to step in and stop the fighting.

The match at Parc Llys Tylcha Fawr was Ynysowen’s last of the season, while Tonyrefail still have another match left to play this weekend against Brackla.

Ynysowen currently sit fourth in Division 4 East Central, with Tonyrefail in sixth.

The Welsh Rugby Union have confirmed that they are investigating the incident.

“We are aware of the incident and currently undergoing the disciplinary procedure which means we are unable to make any further comment at this stage,” said a statement from the governing body.
