Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations DLC was a lot of fun, but in a recent preview session with id Software, we learned about the next offering: Slaughter Mode. All owners of the DLC will receive this for free, but what exactly is it, and when is it going to be available? Thankfully, you won’t have to wait too long, if you want to check out a brand-new addition to the hit demon-destroying title from id and Bethesda.
The base game of Doom: The Dark Ages was already incredibly fun, but to see a free update come to the Revelations DLC is a treat. Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait too long to rip and tear: The Slaughter Mode free update drops next month!
Note: We have not received assets to insert into this piece yet. Once we have, we’ll update accordingly.
Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations DLC owners to receive free Slaughter Mode update
Doom: The Dark Ages RevelationsDLC added a new story alongside an incredible new weapon, but next month, this DLC is getting a free update to add the Slaughter Mode. But what is Slaughter Mode?
This is a new Horde Mode, and it will be free as long as you have Revelations (or the Premium Edition of the base game). It seems like it will be more intense than Doom Eternal’s Horde Mode.
As you play through Slaughter Mode, you accrue Skulls (the in-game currency), and these, in turn, will reward you with awesome rewards in-game. It features 19 maps with randomized encounters. As you complete maps, the value of your run will go up. Some of these maps will be from the base game as well! So while you can’t play through the base game with the Chain Spear, this will be as close as you will get to that.
You can back out during checkpoints, keep your Skulls, and use them on a wide array of cosmetic rewards: Slaughter Skins, Weapon Skins, Chain Spear Skins, Profile Icons and Backgrounds.
Or you can keep going, pushing yourself to the limit. There’s nothing wrong with trying one more map, right? If you fail though, you lose everything, so all those hard-earned Skulls from a run go to waste. It looks like a truly intense, engaging way to play Doom: The Dark Ages. It adds drama and stress to each run, without it being a miserable experience when you fail.
I loved the gameplay for Doom: The Dark Ages, quite frankly, so a mode like this sounds right up my alley! There wasn’t too much more discussed about the Slaughter Mode in Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations, but we did get to see the trailer, and it will be available in November. Fans won’t have to wait long to rip and tear once again.
