Xabi Alonso confirms Chelsea injury blow

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that defender Maxence Lacroix has suffered a hamstring injury ahead of the Premier League clash against Manchester United at home tomorrow.

The Frenchman has been a key player for the Blues since his summer arrival from Crystal Palace, but he could be sidelined for the coming matches after pulling up with a hamstring issue midweek.

The centre-back sustained the setback in the Carabao Cup fourth-round loss to Liverpool on the road and had to be taken off before the half-time break.

Alonso has now confirmed the setback and Lacroix’s absence would be a huge blow for the Blues ahead of Saturday’s crucial league game vs United.

Alonso said: “‘It’s too early to tell how serious it is. Unfortunately, he felt something in his hamstring, and we need a couple of days to check what the injury’s going to be.”

The Spaniard has utilised a three-man backline in the Premier League. It could be Wesley Fofana, Josh Acheampong and Levi Colwill against the Red Devils on Saturday.
