Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that striker Joao Pedro will be sidelined for several weeks after a thigh injury.

The Brazil international has been a key player for the Blues, and he has already netted five goals in all competitions this term.

Pedro was absent for the recent loss to Tottenham Hotspur, and Alonso has now revealed he will be out of action for some weeks.

He said in today’s presser: “He has an injury on his thigh. He will be a few weeks out. Let’s see how many. We don’t want to predict on that.”

Chelsea suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat to Spurs in the Premier League last weekend and they face another tough challenge at Liverpool tomorrow.

The Blues are scheduled to face the Reds on the road in the Carabao Cup fourth round. It could be another huge test for the west London side.

The Reds are on form with four straight wins in all competitions.
