5 best cards in Pokemon TCG Delta Reign expansion, ranked

This post was originally published on this site.

The Pokemon TCG Delta Reign expansion is set for a November 6, 2026 release. There are quite a few cards in this set that are worth either building an entire deck around or adding to existing decks to make them stronger, compared to the 30th Celebration set which as its name implies was more of a celebration of the franchise.

So, let us take a look at some of the best cards for the meta from the Pokemon TCG Delta Reign set.

5) Cacturne

As a single Prize attacker, Cacturne has some hidden potential. While its first move Linear Attack is fine, dealing 30 damage to any of the opponent’s Pokemon, its second move Punishing Needles is the one that everyone should keep in mind.

While Punishing Needles has a base power of 10, it deals 50 more damage for each of your opponent’s Pokemon that has an Ability. Since there are several Darkness-type Pokemon, like N’s Zoroark ex and Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex, that are great in the meta and rely on Pokemon with Abilities (and have Abilities themselves), Cacturne can punish these decks really well.

4) Azurill

Azurill is a useful supporting Pokemon thanks to its move Bouncy-Bounce Charge. This move allows players to search their deck for an Energy and attach it to any of their Benched Pokemon. The key wording on the card is “an Energy,” not “a Basic Energy.” So players can attach Special Energy with Bouncy-Bounce Charge as well.

Additionally, as a baby Pokemon, you can easily switch Azurill out of the Active Spot for no retreat cost, and it does not need any Energy for Bouncy-Bounce Charge. This makes it easy to add a copy of this card to most decks.

Legendary Pyroduct from Delta Reign (Image via The Pokemon Company)

Legendary Pyroduct is arguably the best of the new Legendary Stadiums because of the effect it provides. When this pair of cards is in play, all Evolution Pokemon in play will have the effects of their Abilities ignored. This shuts down so many top Pokemon cards in the meta (Drakloak, N’s Zoroark ex, Alakazam, Kadabra, Dipplin, Thwackey, Crustle, Meganium, and more), it deserved a spot on this list.

Now the main issue with Legendary Pyroduct is that you have to play two cards at the same time. If you don’t have both in your hand, or end up Prizing one of them, you cannot play this Stadium. Also, they can be easily replaced by the opponent if they choose to play a Stadium of their own. Still, even with these drawbacks, getting Legendary Pyroduct into play can be great at shutting down a fair share of opponents.

When Mega Rayquaza ex was first seen in the Japanese set Storm Emeralda, it dominated the Japanese competitive scene for some time. One look at the card clarifies why that’s the case.

Its move Storm Emerald deals 50 damage for each Fire and Lightning Energy attached to all of your Pokemon. The Energy cost of the move is one Fire Energy, one Lightning Energy, and one Colorless Energy. But thanks to its Ability Ruler’s Roar, you can speed up this process by attaching an Energy from the top four cards of your deck.

While Mega Rayquaza ex has dropped a bit in the Japanese Leagues thanks to Lightning decks rising up to counter it, expect this card to be strongly featured in the Pokemon TCG Delta Reign’s early days.

Talonflame ex from Delta Reign (Image via The Pokemon Company)

Right now, there’s no denying that Talonflame ex is the best card from the Pokemon TCG Delta Reign set. Its Ability Excited Dive allows you to play this card directly on your Bench as long as you have a Colorless Mega Pokemon ex, like Mega Lopunny ex or Mega Kangaskhan ex, in play. This makes this card great for many Pokemon TCG decks with Megas as it is a Colorless Pokemon and can use all types of Energy.

Speaking of using Colorless Energy, Talonflame ex’s move Talon Hunt deals 150 damage for two Colorless Energy. While that damage output might seem mediocre, the main reason to use this move, and by extension play this card, is Talon Hunt’s secondary effect.

When you use Talon Hunt, you can search your deck for any two cards and place them in your hand. This is an extremely powerful way to search cards in this meta and makes Talonflame ex worth adding to many Pokemon TCG decks as long as you have a Colorless Mega Pokemon ex.
