“You’ve got to consider what he was surrounded with”: Colin Cowherd bats for Dak Prescott’s Hall of Fame induction after being let down by Cowboys

This post was originally published on this site.

Colin Cowherd thinks Dak Prescott will collect Hall of Fame votes when his career ends, and he thinks the Dallas Cowboys will be part of the reason those votes need arguing at all.

The Fox Sports host made the case on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” measuring Prescott’s production against the situation around him rather than against the team’s 3-5 record.

Thanks for the submission!

“He remains the best quarterback, arguably ever at the podium. Always says the right things. Whether he believes it, I’ll take his word. His career, you have to consider when he retires and you’re thinking about Hall of Fame votes, and he’ll get them. You’ve got to consider what he was surrounded with, because he has put up some fairly prodigious numbers, and I think in the current situation he’s not getting the kind of help from the staff he’s earned.”

The comments followed Dallas’ 33-30 overtime loss to Arizona on Sunday, which dropped the Cowboys to 3-5 and put coach Brian Schottenheimer under scrutiny.

Prescott finished 19 of 29 for 195 yards and a touchdown, ran for 20 yards and another score, and was sacked four times. Dallas ran for 93 yards on 39 carries, a 2.4-yard average, one week after posting 204 against Philadelphia. The Cowboys have not won consecutive games this season.

Arizona scored 26 points after halftime and tied it with a touchdown and six seconds left, and the Cowboys matched the largest fourth-quarter lead they have ever blown, per the Elias Sports Bureau. Gardner Minshew threw three fourth-quarter touchdown passes in his Cardinals debut and Tyler Allgeier ran for 147 yards.

Dak Prescott did not hold back after Cowboys’ loss

Prescott, the 11th-year starter, refused to direct any of the blame at Schottenheimer.

“It’s all of us,” Prescott said. “Don’t put the blame on one person. Simple as that. I think that’s weak. I think that’s cowardice. This game is about all 11 that touch the field and every person that has a part in it coaches and support staff. It’s never just one person’s fault.”

He called the defeat “one of the toughest I guess I’ve been a part of” and added:

“No words for it really. Other than that, really, really disappointing, and frustrating. It’s part of this league.” Later he offered a shorter version: “At this point, talk is cheap.”

Jerry Jones backed his coach too, saying he was not considering an in-season change while calling the result “an indictment of the whole show.”

Cowherd, who left Prescott off his top-10 quarterbacks list in May, was blunter about the staff. Dallas is “the worst-coached team in the NFL, and it is by a wide margin,” he said, adding that Jones “went cheap on coaching.”

Cowherd’s fix is not a teardown: “They got dudes,” he said, and he raised the Nov. 10 trade deadline as a place to start. His point about Prescott is that the numbers exist and the support has not.
