WNBA fans lost it online after Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd made a relationship announcement.
Bueckers and Fudd have broken up; they confirmed it on Friday’s “Fudd Around and Find Out” podcast. According to the former couple, they dated when they were teammates at UConn. However, they broke up before they became teammates again with the Dallas Wings.
“Paige and I have something we want to share with everyone,” Fudd said. “We are no longer together.”
“It’s been a while. It’s been, like, over a year,” Bueckers clarified. “You know everybody’s gonna be like, ‘Oh my gosh, they’re teammates, how is this gonna work?’ We were not together before she got drafted, so all those narratives can go to bed.”
Bueckers also said the Wings did not draft Fudd because of their relationship. However, Dallas drafted her with the No. 1 pick because of her talent. The former couple confirmed they remain good friends after the breakup.
“At the end of the day, we still care about each other. We want the best for each other, and all the negative things can be put aside,” Bueckers said.
After they confirmed their breakup, several fans commented on it online.
“Someone in Dallas is getting fired,” a fan said.
“This was to protect Azzi,” another fan commented.
“Drafting your best player’s ex might be worse, especially when there were better options,” one fan said.
More fans commented on their breakup.
“Azzi season loading, she’s about to go crazy on the court this year,” someone commented.
“D**n, I had a feeling but didn’t want to believe it,” a comment read.
“So why didn’t they clear this up the first time the question was asked tho?” one fan commented.
Azzi Fudd finished her rookie season with the Wings, averaging 13.1 points on 39.7% 3-point shooting.
Azzi Fudd Reflected on Her Rookie Year
Azzi Fudd’s rookie season ended after she experienced right knee soreness. Fudd underwent arthroscopic surgery to address the soreness, ending her rookie season.
After the Wings’ season ended, Fudd reflected on her rookie year.
“I think your rookie season is a lot. It’s a lot all at once. Once I went home and I could take that deep breath, I was like, ‘wow.’ I think how I handled everything,” Fudd said. “Obviously there are things I think I could have done better … any elite athlete is going to think that, be able to critique themselves. But I think I’m proud of how I handled it, how I adjusted.”
Azzi Fudd said she was proud of her rookie year and is looking forward to the 2027 season.
