NBA fans were devastated by Kristaps Porzingis‘ decision about his career.
The Latvian star has not played a game in the 2026-27 season due to health issues. Porzingis is reportedly dealing with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), a chronic autonomic nervous system disorder. The big man first experienced severe symptoms and fatigue during his stint with the Boston Celtics in 2025.
Thanks for the submission!
On Friday, Porzingis released a statement about his decision to play basketball.

“This season I was really looking forward to running it with this group, but as I ramped up, my body didn’t respond the way I anticipated,” he wrote. “I’m doing well, but I know what it takes, and I’m not where I want to be to perform at the level that I expect from myself. At this point, I’ve decided to prioritize my health and step away from the game I love.”
“In this situation, I want to show the utmost respect for the Golden State Warriors and work with them to find a solution that makes sense. I’m thankful to my family and close ones for always being there. Much appreciation to all of you for the support. Onwards and upwards.”
After the statement from the Golden State Warriors big man, fans shared their thoughts.
“Mike Dunleavy, you’re going to h*ll,” a fan said.
“Unicorn has fallen,” another fan commented.
“That’s insane, feel for him,” one fan said.
More fans wished Porzingis good health.
“Get well soon 🙏,” someone commented.
“Wishing you all the best in your future, man. Health is above everything. 🙏” a comment read.
“We love you, KP! Still miss you in Boston, hoping for the best in your recovery!” one fan commented.
Although Porzingis is stepping away from basketball, Luca Evans of the San Francisco Chronicle confirmed that his X post is not a retirement announcement. He will continue to work with the Warriors to find a solution.
The Warriors Have Withheld Kristaps Porzingis’ Salary
Over the summer, the Warriors and Kristaps Porzingis agreed to a two-year, $40 million contract. However, his health has also affected his salary. Since he has not played a game this season, Golden State had withheld payments, ESPN’s Shams Charania and Anthony Slater reported on Wednesday.
“The Warriors are not delivering payments to Kristaps Porzingis on his $20 million salary, ruling that he is not rendering services, sources tell me and @anthonyVslater,” Charania reported.
Kristaps Porzingis and the NBPA (National Basketball Players Association) have decided not to contest the Warriors’ decision. Last season, Porzingis also dealt with the same health issue, which limited him to only 15 games, averaging 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
