Alexander Zverev vs Lorenzo Musetti preview
Top seed Alexander Zverev will face off against Lorenzo Musetti in the second round of the 2026 Paris Masters on Wednesday.
Zverev arrives in Paris as the new World No. 1, following an impressive season that included two Grand Slam titles. He most recently reached the semifinals of the Vienna Open, defeating Martin Landaluce, Tallon Griekspoor and Arthur Fery before losing to Alex de Minaur in a deciding-set tiebreak. Zverev will be looking to make a strong start in his first tournament since receiving the World No. 1 trophy in the French capital.
Musetti, meanwhile, opened his Paris campaign with a hard-fought 7-6(3), 7-6(10) victory over Hubert Hurkacz. The Italian saved two set points in the second-set tiebreak before eventually closing out the match in straight sets. He also enjoyed a strong run recently, winning the Lyon title with a victory over Taylor Fritz in the final and beating Frances Tiafoe in Vienna before suffering an early exit against Arthur Fery. His win over Hurkacz should give him additional confidence heading into this challenging second-round encounter.

Alexander Zverev vs Lorenzo Musetti prediction
Zverev has the advantage on indoor hard courts, with his powerful serve, backhand and ability to control baseline exchanges making him particularly difficult to break down. The German has also enjoyed a stronger 2026 season, winning more matches and showing greater consistency against top-level opposition. His extra days of rest should help him arrive fresh for this encounter.
Musetti, however, cannot be underestimated. He leads their head-to-head 3-2 and has already secured a straight-sets victory over Hubert Hurkacz in Paris. His variety, one-handed backhand and ability to change the pace of rallies could disrupt Zverev’s rhythm. The Italian also has an advantage in confidence after winning their previous three meetings before Zverev’s victory in Vienna last year.
The indoor conditions should favour Zverev’s bigger serve and more direct baseline game, while Musetti’s recent workload could become a factor after playing more than six matches over the last 14 days. The Italian should make this competitive, but Zverev’s superior serving numbers and greater consistency give him the edge.
Pick: Zverev to win in three sets.
