WWE’s trip to Crown Jewel has been a controversial decision, but it seems that there are a number of stars who won’t be making the trip.
The current safety risks in Riyadh, where WWE is set to host Crown Jewel in around two weeks’ time, are the reason why many fans believed that the event would be cancelled or moved, but work has started on the setup for the show, making it clear that it will go ahead as planned.
Thanks for the submission!
According to Jonathan Coachman, it seems that WWE stars are not happy about the decision backstage, and one in particular, named as Kevin Owens, has refused to make the trip.
According to the report, Owens’ refusal to make the trip to the Middle East is the reason why his match against CM Punk will be booked for a taped episode of SmackDown next week.
“They booked Kevin Owens vs. CM Punk in a taped match for the Barclays Center next week. So I think that was gonna happen at Crown Jewel, but it’s not happening because they don’t wanna go to Saudi.” he claimed.
It’s likely that Owens won’t be alone in not wanting to travel, given the risks and the fact that the US government has already made it clear that nonessential citizens should be evacuating the city.
Will WWE Crown Jewel go ahead as planned on November 7th?
Kevin Owens isn’t the only star who will miss Crown Jewel; it seems that there are several who won’t travel since the company hasn’t put a lot of names on the card.
The recent Tag Team match announcement on RAW means that so far there are only eight names on the card.
Bayley and Drew McIntyre are already booked to be at Zuffa Boxing that weekend in the UK, so they won’t be making the trip either. So it seems that WWE is taking a heavily reduced roster to allow the event to go ahead.
That being said, some of the biggest names in the company will be part of Crown Jewel since the format of the card means that their two current World Champions, Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn, will be colliding.
Chelsea Green and Liv Morgan will be representing the women as well as they look to take the Crown Jewel Championship away from Stephanie Vaquer.
