NJPW and AEW have a strong working relationship. The former is the biggest wrestling promotion in Japan, and they are currently preparing for Wrestle Kingdom 21. Furthermore, a few hours ago, they announced that they are closing New Japan Pro-Wrestling of America Inc.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling of America Inc. was a subsidiary of New Japan Pro-Wrestling. This subsidiary was founded in 2019. Nevertheless, the TV Asahi Group will keep backing NJPW shows in North America.
“New Japan Pro-Wrestling hereby announces that subsidiary New Japan Pro-Wrestling of America Inc will cease operations and enter liquidation. As NJPW continues to optimize allocation of management resources in a rapidly changing business environment, the decision was made to close the subsidiary, which was founded in 2019. Moving forward, NJPW events in North America will continue to be held with the full backing and resources of the TV Asahi group, as part of a new chapter in NJPW’s ongoing global expansion,” read the announcement.
AEW president Tony Khan on booking AEW x NJPW x Stardom x CMLL Forbidden Door
Forbidden Door is a collaboration between AEW, NJPW, Stardom, and CMLL. This year’s edition featured several high-profile matches, including Will Ospreay vs. Swerve Strickland.
In a recent appearance on Q93’s Morning Crew, Tony Khan opened up about the challenges and problems he faces while booking the pay-per-view.
“There are a lot of logistics. Of course, securing the visas, sometimes there can be a great international wrestler that doesn’t have their work visa, and you want to try to get those people in, and then you’re working with the other promoters to try to utilize the stars they want to use, and you might have different ideas from your counterparts in these other companies. So, for me, I love working with other wrestling companies and other promoters. And especially, I love bringing in lots of the best wrestlers in the world. And that’s what’s so fun about this event, the Forbidden Door, and that’s what makes this week so fun,” he said. [H/T: PW Insider]
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for New Japan Pro Wrestling.
