The Destiny 2 Unvaulting news everyone’s been waiting for is finally here, and we now have a roadmap. It’s been over a month since Bungie’s initial D2 revival announcement, and it seems they have thought everything through. In the latest community update, they posted a Q&A regarding the Unvaulting.
First things first, Destiny 2 Unvaulting now has a roadmap, or officially, a progress bar. It also includes details on what’s returning. The timeline still isn’t complete, but we have a date for when Bungie will start working on it. Here’s everything you need to know.
Destiny 2 Unvaulting to enter production in February 2027
That’s right, per the official timeline, the work on Unvaulting will begin in February 2027. Scoping and Validation are already complete, and everything is currently in pre-production. Here’s what’s on the progress bar:
- Scoping (June 2026)
- Validation (September 2026)
- Pre-production (now)
- Production (February 2027)
- Release (TBD)
Now, you may be wondering, wasn’t June 2026 also when we received the final update for Destiny 2? That’s right, and player count surged right after, which will make any dev think twice, and that’s likely when they decided to reassess the scope. Needless to say, the community sentiment was heard, and we got the initial announcement in September.
A month later, we’re here at pre-production, with work on D2 Content Unvaulting starting early next year. The release date is still a mystery, but the post did say the release is expected to take about 12 months. We’re still not getting TWIDs at the moment, but there are plans for celebrations in Destiny 2 beyond Monument of Triumph, with more news coming soon.
What to expect in the Destiny 2 Content Unvault?

We may not have a release date, but we do know what’s coming with the D2 Content Unvault. Bungie Head of Product Josh Deane said: “The aim is to get the campaign whole again.” Here’s what we’re definitely getting back:
- Red War, Forsaken, Curse of Osiris, and Warmind campaigns
- Strikes from the above releases
- Raids and Raid Lairs from the above releases
- Menagerie Activity with reprised rewards
However, that’s not all, as the Unvaulting also includes stretch goals. Here’s what they have in mind:
- Free Roam Destinations (Public Events, Lost Sectors, Escalation Protocol, etc.)
- Seasonal Activities from Sundial (Season 9) to The Coil (Season 23)
- Raid and Raid Lair Weapon updates
- PvP Maps
Again, the list mentioned above is a lot of work on top of already planned New Light Experience and Seasonal Story Missions. It’s too early to say if it’ll become a reality, and we’ll know more as the devs get closer to the Unvaulting.
