NBA fans are excited after the OKC Thunder announced their plans to retire Russell Westbrook‘s No. 0 jersey.
Westbrook retired over the summer after 18 years in the league. The last team he played for was the Sacramento Kings. However, he will forever be associated with the Thunder, where he had his best years.
Thanks for the submission!
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Westbrook’s iconic jersey will be lifted to the rafters on Feb. 7 against the New York Knicks.

Fans are looking forward to seeing Westbrook’s jersey retired at Paycom Center.
“Durant next,” a fan said.
“Russ needs a statue,” another fan commented.
“Well deserved, and build him a statue while you’re at it, OKC. 🗣️,” one fan said.
More fans reacted to the Thunder’s decision about Westbrook’s jersey.
“We Thunder fans are so spoiled, man; we really went from Westbrook to Shai,” someone commented.
“This is the lone bright side to a s***ty year. I cannot wait to see Westbrook honored,” a comment read.
“No one will ever touch that #0 again, and that’s how it should be 🥹,” one fan commented.
The Seattle SuperSonics drafted Westbrook in 2008 but relocated to Oklahoma City days later. The former UCLA star would end up playing 11 seasons for the Thunder, becoming an All-Star, an All-NBA talent and an MVP.
During his tenure in OKC, Westbrook averaged 23.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 8.4 assists on 43.4% shooting. His best season with the franchise was in the 2016-17 campaign. He averaged 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists, winning the regular-season MVP.
He is the franchise’s all-time leader in triple-doubles, with 138.
Dwyane Wade Says Russell Westbrook is the Greatest Thunder Player
After Russell Westbrook announced his retirement during the offseason, several current and former players paid tribute to his legendary career. Dwyane Wade, who he faced in the 2012 NBA Finals, had the ultimate praise for what he did on the court.
“Man Russ is having one of the most underappreciated careers that we will see, for whatever the reasons are, just one of the G.O.A.T. careers because it’s customized and no one has one like it — like no one has a career like Russell Westbrook and no one plays the game like Westbrook,” Wade said.
“To me personally I still think Russell Westbrook is the greatest player in OKC history. Russ averaged four triple-doubles in four years. He did something that people said it will never ever be done again — he did it four times. He did something as a player in the league that no one ever thought was going to be done again.”
Westbrook will forever be remembered as one of the best NBA point guards.
