Jon Moxley’s former rival challenges him to a match after over two years

Jon Moxley has been dealing with plenty of challenges in All Elite Wrestling. Jay White and The Cut are after him and his Death Riders. Amid all that, the Continental Champion went to NJPW to compete at the Power Struggle event in Hiroshima, Japan.

The former WWE star teamed up with Wheeler Yuta to take on Shingo Takagi and Jeff Cobb in a tag team match. It was Moxley’s first match in New Japan Pro-Wrestling in over two years. Despite giving a tough performance, the Death Riders failed to pick up a win against Takagi and Cobb. Following the match, Takagi went on to issue a bold challenge to The Purveyor of Violence.

In a post-match promo, Shingo Takagi challenged Jon Moxley for a special singles match at Wrestle Kingdom 21. It will be the first singles match between the two stars since 2024. NJPW has made this match official for Wrestle Kingdom 21, which will take place on January 4, 2027, at Tokyo Dome in Tokyo.

Takagi and Moxley have been fierce rivals in professional wrestling. They competed at G1 Climax in 2019, where The Purveyor of Violence beat the Japanese superstar. Then they faced each other one more time at NJPW Battle In The Valley 2024, where the former WWE star once again picked up a win. Therefore, the NJPW star has never defeated Jon Moxley in a singles match in his career.

Jon Moxley and his Death Riders will compete at AEW Full Gear 2026

This week, AEW will host the annual Blood and Guts show from Jacksonville, Florida. The Death Riders is set to miss out on the major event. However, Jon Moxley and his crew will make their return to AEW specials at Full Gear pay-per-view later this month.

The Cut has been a thorn in the side of the Death Riders over the past few weeks. Last week, Moxley challenged Jay White and his faction to an Anarchy in the Arena match at Full Gear. Although White has not officially accepted the challenge, he is most likely to be there for the event this month.

As a result, the Death Riders and The Cut will likely headline Full Gear with their Anarchy in the Arena match. Only time will tell what Tony Khan has planned for this epic-scale match from Phoenix this month. Full Gear will take place on November 14 at Mortgage Matchup Center.
