For a promoted side in a top league, life can often be tough, and Le Mans are finding that in Ligue 1 this season. They are currently in 17th, and face a tough test on Sunday, as they take on AS Monaco at the Stade Marie-Marvingt.
Monaco, for their part, are in 7th, and will want to win here to ensure they move back into European contention, even at this early phase of the season.
Thanks for the submission!
So can Le Mans pull off a huge win here, or will Monaco brush them aside?
Le Mans vs AS Monaco Head-to-Head and Key Numbers
- Monaco are unbeaten in their last six matches with Le Mans, winning their most recent three. It is worth noting, though, that these sides have not faced off since May 2013, well over a decade ago.
- Le Mans are coming into this match on a bad run of three losses in their last four games, as they have fallen to PSG, Toulouse and most recently, to fellow strugglers Troyes. The last time they collected a point was in their draw with Auxerre on October 25th.
- Monaco suffered a defeat in their last Ligue 1 match, losing to fellow high-flyers Paris FC in a mild upset. However, they did bounce back in Europe this week, comfortably edging out Danish side Nordsjælland 2-0 to record their third victory in the UEFA Conference League.
- While Monaco’s European form has been strong, their domestic form has fallen off for the most part. Their defeat at the hands of Paris FC last weekend was their fourth winless game in a row, and they have now only come out on top in one of their last five league matches.
- Despite Le Mans’ struggles this season, they have actually not been quite so bad at home. They have only lost once in front of their home fans thus far, falling to Toulouse, and have collected five points from a possible 12 there.
Le Mans vs AS Monaco
While Monaco are coming into this match on the back of a win, their domestic form has not been good recently, with just one win in their last five.
This match should be a good chance for them to right the ship, though. Le Mans are also winless in their last four, and while they haven’t been terrible this season, their loss to struggling Troyes last weekend was a red flag of sorts.
The prediction, then, is a solid away win.
Prediction: Le Mans 1-3 AS Monaco
