Liverpool have reportedly stepped up their interest in Archie Brown, the Fenerbahce left-back who scored one goal and set up another in the Turkish side’s 3-2 Champions League win over the Reds on Wednesday. It was Liverpool’s second defeat in three days, after the 1-0 home loss to Arsenal.
Brown, 24, was one of the standout performers at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium. He equalized in the 73rd minute after Trey Nyoni and Alexander Isak had twice put Andoni Iraola’s team in front, then set up Vedat Muriqi for the winner. Mason Greenwood scored Fenerbahce’s other goal, and the result ended Liverpool’s perfect start to the league phase and gave the Turkish giants their first Champions League win in 18 years.
Thanks for the submission!
According to a report from TEAMtalk, the Anfield-based club has monitored the Birmingham-born defender through the season and is now preparing to accelerate their interest after that performance.
The report adds that the Anfield club has made strengthening at left-back a major priority heading into 2027, and that sources believe Brown has ambitions to return to English football and test himself in the Premier League. He left Derby County’s academy for Lausanne at 19, joined Gent in 2023 and moved to Fenerbahce for around £7m in 2025.
TEAMtalk also names Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Everton and Brighton as admirers, with AC Milan among the clubs that have asked about him in the summer window.
Brown, a former England Under-20 international, has three goals in this season’s Champions League, including one against Roma and another in the play-off against Lyon, plus 54 appearances for Fenerbahce with eight goals and nine assists.
Liverpool’s left-back targets beyond Archie Brown
Left-back has been the loudest item on Liverpool’s to-do list since Andy Robertson left for Tottenham when his contract expired and Milos Kerkez, the £40m signing from Bournemouth, failed to make the position his own. Kostas Tsimikas is out of contract at the end of the season and started in Istanbul, where he struggled against former Manchester United star Mason Greenwood.
TEAMtalk’s report puts Barcelona‘s Alejandro Balde, potentially available at a cut price in 2027, and Bournemouth’s Adrien Truffert, valued around £60m in earlier reports, alongside Brown on the club’s shortlist. Brentford’s El Hadji Malick Diouf, 21, has also been linked, with reports in Senegal claiming Liverpool and Chelsea have contacted his representatives. The Reds travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday in their final game before the international break.
