Phantom Blade Zero walkthrough: How to complete Heartless Remnant

Heartless Remnants in Phantom Blade Zero is a main story quest that takes place in the Village of Lu. You must explore the village, defeat the Mandate masters, and venture into the underground Puppet Testing Grounds to confront Yuzan. Afterward, you must engage in a battle against Mu Xiaokui to conclude the mission.

How to complete the Heartless Remnants quest in Phantom Blade Zero

Reach the Village of Lu

Near the end of the Snake’s Reflection questline in Phantom Blade Zero, continue through the Crossroads until you encounter Jewel, one of Forge’s sisters. Speak to her to progress the Illusory Pipa subquest, then continue toward the Crossroads Bell.

After the cutscene, you will learn about the Village of Lu and Mandate Encampment. Head toward the encampment first to activate the Mandate Encampment Outer Gate Bell and collect the nearby Memory Flower. Then continue past the river, defeat the puppets near Old Man Gen’s Hideout, and speak to him to start The Journey Home tale.

Afterward, you can enter the Village of Lu by defeating Zhuo Bi, the Gate Keeper, or by taking the alternate route along the cliffs to the left.

Explore the Village of Lu

Before entering the village, you can also visit Young Master Lan’s Hideout by exploring the blue-flowered area to the left. Additionally, as you approach the bridge, look for a red ribbon tied to a small tree and collect it to begin the Young Mistress collectible quest.

Afterward, head to the Well of Three Puppets in Phantom Blade Zero and activate the nearby Bell. Interact with one of the puppets at the well to progress the Heartless Remnants objectives.

You can also visit the Temple of Blue Fireflies to the east to activate its Bell, collect Memory Flowers and books, and speak to the Songstress Puppet to start A Puppet’s Wooden Heart.

Cross the Covered Bridge and sever the red threads

From the Well of Three Puppets, head west until you reach a building covered in red threads. Now simply enter the building and defeat the large puppet inside to obtain the Mother’s Talisman. You can later give it to the Weaver near the village entrance to complete A Dream of Motherhood.

Continue to the second floor to find Wedding Candles for Quick Hand Zhang, then exit toward the Covered Bridge Bell. From here, head down while defeating the enemies along the way. Continue until you find the source of the red threads, then eliminate all the enemies in the area to sever the threads.

Defeat Master Bi Yuan

Return to the Covered Bridge and continue forward until you reach the Statue Grounds Entrance Bell in Phantom Blade Zero. Take the stairs upwards to face off against Master Bi Yuan. Once you defeat him, collect the nearby Memory Flower and activate the Crane Bell to obtain another ribbon for the Young Mistress tale.

Afterward, explore the nearby buildings to collect the Unveiled Statue for Quick Hand Zhang’s Request and additional upgrade materials. Then proceed toward the Smuggler’s Treasure Cellar Bell.

Defeat Master Bi Hai

After reaching the Smuggler’s Tunnel Entrance, continue toward the open area and speak to the Wounded Thief. Select the dialogue option “Any Other Requests?” to start the Leave None Alive tale.

From here, head to the left to find Master Bi Hai. After defeating him, collect the nearby Memory Flower and explore the river upstream to find a Blackstone Fragment in a chest. Now continue northeast toward the Terraces Bell.

For the next part, approach the Engine Giant Remains Bell and look for a glowing red scarecrow nearby. Interact with it to fight Acolyte Yanru, which progresses the Secrets at the Heart of the Lake subquest.

Defeat Yuzan at the Puppet Testing Grounds

Once you reach the Engine Giant Remains area, enter the house and defeat the Sect Leader’s remains to completely sever the threads covering the well. Collect the Memory Flower left behind.

From here, continue southeast to the Survival Courtyard, clear the enemies at the entrance, and activate the Bell. You can complete some optional tales here before returning to the Well of Three Puppets.

Now, jump into the well and make your way to the Puppet Testing Grounds to fight Yuzan in Phantom Blade Zero. After beating her, you can speak to the puppet girl in the small red area to obtain Cui’s Red Ribbon and enter the nearby portal to progress The Herald’s Illusion quest.

Defeat Mu Xiaokui

After defeating Yuzan, approach the locked door marked with a mask to trigger an elevator. Take it to the surface and activate the Lakeside Bell.

Continue forward to trigger the final boss fight against Mu Xiaokui. Defeating her will complete the main objectives of Heartless Remnants and allow you to progress to the next mission in Phantom Blade Zero.
