Connor Hellebuyck delivered a solid performance in his New Jersey Devils debut on Tuesday night. The three-time Vezina Trophy winner stopped 16 of 17 shots as the Devils defeated the Dallas Stars 5-1.
Acquired from the Winnipeg Jets just four days earlier in a blockbuster trade, Hellebuyck was making his first appearance this season after sitting out training camp and being suspended by the Jets.
Despite limited practice time with his new team, Connor Hellebuyck looked sharp in the win.
Here’s how fans on X reacted to Hellebuyck’s debut, with one tweeting:
“Wait until playoffs Devils fans. Then he’s hot garbage.”
Another chimed in:
“Ahh love being the villains of hockey once again, loser fans of other teams will keep moving the goalposts as most of them do. Team effort win tonight, and more confidence knowing we got a Vezina gold medalist in the cage.”
Here are some of the other top reactions on X:
“Three Vezinas and a Hart Trophy, and he’s starting over in New Jersey at 33. Hard not to root for a guy like that,” a third fan wrote.
“Devils fans acting like they won the lottery and Rangers fans pretending we didn’t refresh this 40 times,” one X user opined.
“The worry is last season: .895 in 57 games in winnipeg. the answer is February: 5-0 with a .956 at the olympics. the goalie from milan is the one with three Vezinas, and that is the one the devils just got,” another chimed in.
“What a complete game by this team it’s really coming together. Connor Hellebuyck is the goat,” added another.
