AEW veteran Paul Wight recently discussed bringing back a major name to All Elite Wrestling. He has been one of the biggest assets the company has to offer. He wrestled his last match in 2023. While he has teased his in-ring return multiple times, he has not stepped foot in the ring. Currently, he is providing commentary during Collision.
The former Intercontinental Champion signed with All Elite Wrestling in 2021. He made sporadic appearances in the first year. However, a year later, he appeared as Captain Insano in a music video alongside the Acclaimed. The video went viral as it was a major throwback to Wight’s role in the 1998 comedy movie, The Waterboy.
While speaking on Going Ringside, Paul Wight claimed he is still working on the Captain Insano gimmick and has been working hard to bring it on TV.
“You son of a gun. Captain is a lot of fun. We’re still working on that, actually. I have a lot of fun with it. Of course, that character was iconic in the movie The Waterboy. I’m going through a lot of hard work to bring that character out, to present that character in its best possible format. We might need to update the uniform, though. I don’t know. The stars are cool, but we need to update the gear somehow. So, we’ll work on it,” he said. [H/T – Ringside News]
AEW star Thekla sheds light on a conversation with Paul Wight
Thekla appeared on the panel during All In 2026’s Buy In show. On TMZ Sports, the Toxic Spider said it was the first time she had a proper conversation with him during that show.
“And then I did talk to Big Show [Paul Wight] too. I think that’s the first time I caught his attention, you know. But I think he was more freaked out, like, ‘All right, she’s got, like, a drink in her hand. Is she gonna spill it all over us, or what the f*ck’s gonna happen?'” Thekla said.
It will be interesting to see what is next for the former Intercontinental Champion.
