Liverpool fans are furious with Bradley Barcola after his performance in the defeat to Arsenal. The Reds lost 1-0 to the Gunners at Anfield, failing to register a single shot on target in the second half.
Arsenal travelled to Anfield today with a chance to move to the top of the table, and they needed just a point to pip Manchester City. Mikel Arteta’s side managed to walk away with all three points, with Kai Havertz scoring the lone goal.
Thanks for the submission!
The Gunners took the lead in the 16th minute, and were then happy to defend it. Liverpool managed to get just 1.15 xG from their 17 shots in the game, but none were on target in the second half.
Barcola was the player getting the heat from Liverpool fans on social media following his performance, as his only shot in the match came in the 92nd minute. He also failed to beat the Arsenal defence on most occasions, and lost possession 21 times in the match.
The Reds faithful were furious with him and posted:
Liverpool now sit fifth in the Premier League table, already nine points behind leaders Arsenal after nine matches. They face Fenerbahce next in the UEFA Champions League, before taking on Crystal Palace next weekend.
Virgil van Dijk expects more from Liverpool forwards
Virgil van Dijk has admitted that the pressure is on new Liverpool forwards to get the goals after their start to the season. He added that they need to learn from the trio of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino and said:
“What Mo has done for so many years as a winger, I don’t think anyone can replicate that. Hopefully it is going to happen, but what he did was incredible. The same goes with Sadio (Mane) and Bobby (Roberto Firmino). Hopefully that is going to happen again and that is what we work for but now it is time for others and others have to step up. We can always think it was better back in the day but that is not the mentality that it should be at a club like L’pool and I don’t feel it has ever been.”
“The club will always move on at a certain point and there are always players who will shine and perform for the club. It is down to these players who are here now to show it every three or four days. The second goal was class but there are plenty of moments already this season that they have been very good. At a club like L’pool you have to do it every three or four days. That is always the challenge, but it is a nice challenge. I’m pretty confident that it is going to be fine.”
Liverpool have scored 11 goals in their opening nine Premier League matches, fewer than any of the top seven sides in the league.
