The Missing Calf is one of many sub-quests within Crimson Desert’s Beyond the Margins quest. This quest will have you navigate the sandstorm to find the bison herd and bring them back to the ranch. The catch is, there is no herd, and you only need to find and bring back a bison calf.
Sounds simple enough, right? Not exactly, because the sandstorm makes navigation much harder. In this guide, we’ll cover the full Missing Calf sub-quest in Beyond the Margins in Crimson Desert.
Finding and bringing back Missing Calf in Crimson Desert: Beyond the Margins quest
To start the quest, find a group of NPCs by a withered tree in the Hazran village. It’s one of the settlements that’s affected by the sandstorm. The problem is you cannot use the mini-map, and the only lead you get is that the pasture is to the south of the village, beyond the rocky hill.
- Start by tracking down the bison herd. Use your lantern near the village entrance by the Marker Stone, and you’ll see a faint trail leading into the desert.
- Don’t stray from the trail, as it’s the only way to find the herd. If you do lose it, the only option is to teleport back to the Abyss Nexus near the Hazran village and start again.
- Following the trail will bring you to a group of Antumbra Sand Warpriests. Take them out first before anything else.
- Once you’re done, look to your left side to find a bison calf inside an enclosure. You need to carry it back to the village.
The goal was to find the bison herd, but don’t worry about it, as the main objective is getting the calf back to the village.

Returning the calf to Hazran Village amidst a sandstorm
This is where the real struggle starts. Unlike before, there is no guiding light back to the Hazran village, so you need to navigate the sandstorm on your own. If you’ve come this far, you already know the mini-map in this area doesn’t work, and the map won’t show your location. Here’s how you can backtrack through the sandstorm in Crimson Desert:
- To navigate through the storm, look for the closest Marker Stone. If you’ve already purified them, they will lead to three different villages. If not, defeat the enemies and take out the three black stacks in the area.
- You’re looking for either Hazran Village or Lukumiya Village, which is closest to your destination.
- Finding Hazran on the Marker Stone is the best-case scenario, but if you reach Lukumiya first, head to the upper-left side as shown in the image to reach Hazran.
The Marker Stone points toward the village’s general location, and heading in that direction will take you to your destination. It’s also the only efficient way to navigate the sandstorm unless you unlock the Abyss Nexus in the village. However, since you’re carrying the calf, you cannot fast travel.
Once you’re back in the village, you’ll find that while you were rescuing the bison calf, the villagers have rounded up the rest of the herd. And that’s the end of the Missing Calf sub-quest in Crimson Desert.
