Former NBA player Etan Thomas slammed Caitlin Clark’s fans while addressing the criticism Angel Reese received after her WNBA Finals loss.
In a lengthy post on Threads on Monday, Thomas defended Reese for helping the Atlanta Dream reach the 2026 WNBA Finals. He also posed a question to Clark’s fans, referencing the Indiana Fever’s early playoff exit.
“Dear Caitlin Clark Mob, First of all, congratulations!!! You did it!!!” Thomas wrote. “Angel Reese lost in the WNBA Finals!!! I know this must feel like a championship for you all. The celebrations, the victory laps, the obsession with her Game 7 stats. Y’all are something else. But since we’re talking about stats, I had a quick question.
“How many points did Caitlin Clark score in the WNBA Finals? How many assists? How many logo threes?”
Many social media users have been criticizing Reese after her Game 7 performance on Saturday. The Dream star finished with eight points, 12 rebounds and four turnovers on 3-for-7 shooting in the 68-63 loss to the Golden State Valkyries.
Thomas played in the NBA from 2000 to 2011 and was a teammate of Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Michael Jordan for two seasons with the Washington Wizards.
Etan Thomas mentions Caitlin Clark’s teammate Sophie Cunningham while defending Angel Reese
In the same series of posts on Threads on Monday, Etan Thomas said that Caitlin Clark’s fans have “a special kind of dedication to hating” Angel Reese. He also mentioned Fever star Sophie Cunningham, who has emerged as one of this season’s most popular players.
“Was Sophie Cunningham doing her pointy finger thing y’all thought was so cute and adorable?” Thomas added. “Was she talking about how the National Anthem was her favorite song on her playlist and whatever other dog whistles y’all like to hear her say?
“I mean, surely with all this celebrating, they must have put up some monster numbers in the Finals, right? Meanwhile, the player you’ve spent all season obsessively criticizing was actually competing for a championship. Y’all are actively celebrating someone else’s Finals loss when your favorite players didn’t even make it to the Finals.”
During a heated exchange in a June game, Cunningham stood still and pointed her finger at then-Phoenix Mercury forward DeWanna Bonner. The gesture went viral and instantly became a meme.
Reese, the 2026 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, averaged 14.7 points, 12.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals, 1.3 blocks and 3.9 turnovers during the Finals.
