Martina Navratilova and Rennae Stubbs have never been shy about American politics, and election night was no exception. After the Democrats seized Congress on November 3, the 18-time Grand Slam singles champion and Serena Williams’ coach treated the result as a reckoning.
Democrats won control of the House and the Senate, ending the Republican trifecta. The party cleared the 218 House seats it needed early on Wednesday and flipped at least seven Republican-held Senate seats, beyond the four-seat net gain required. James Talarico defeated Ken Paxton in Texas, Adam Hamilton won in Kansas, Sherrod Brown reclaimed Ohio, and Annie Andrews took South Carolina.
Thanks for the submission!
As the Senate results rolled in, Navratilova rejoiced over the “blowout” and the rejection of what she described as the “corruption” under Donald Trump’s administration.
“Looking like a country wide blowout- Americans are sick of broken promises, higher prices everywhere and corruption off the charts It will be a 💙not wave but a 💙tsunami,” Navratilova posted on X.
“The corruption of the Trump White House was too much even for MAGA🤷🏼♀️🤞🏼 And now it’s time to release the EPSTEIN FILES!!!” she commented further.
The former World No. 1’s attention soon moved to Texas, where Gina Hinojosa unseated Greg Abbott to become the state’s first Latina governor and the first Democrat to hold the office since Ann Richards left it in 1995.
“An exciting night for so many people- go Gina Hinojosa!!! It is a blue tsunami indeed:) Well done!!!” Navratilova wrote.
Stubbs, a former doubles World No. 1 who coached Williams at the 2022 US Open and rejoined her team for this year’s comeback, echoed Navratilova’s sentiments.
“BLUENAMIIIIII,” Stubbs shared on X.
“Congress and Senate! Get your lawyers ready GOP,” she wrote.
Martina Navratilova and Rennae Stubbs were not alone in rejoicing over the “blue tsunami,” as Coco Gauff also celebrated the progress made by the Democrats while expressing hope for Florida to also switch allegiances in future elections.
Martina Navratilova issued a stern response to Donald Trump’s supporters after her vote reveal

Martina Navratilova had disclosed her own ballot days before the vote, revealing that she had voted for all Democrats in her home state of Florida.
“Apparently it’s a no-no to post a partial or any photo of a ballot. So I took the photo down – my bad- and will only say I voted for all democrats. And that of course includes David Jolly- Gwen Graham ticket for governor and also Angie Nixon for Senator,” Navratilova posted.
The post drew a hostile reaction, prompting Navratilova to call out the Donald Trump supporters who claimed that her Czech citizenship meant she had voted illegally.
“And to the maga nasties out here who are suggesting I am not an American since I also have a Czech citizenship and therefore I voted illegally here in Florida. I got news for you. Melania trump is also a dual citizen- of US and Slovenia,” she commented.
The exchange fits a long pattern. Martina Navratilova has been critical of Trump and Republican officials for years, and has often voiced her opposition to his administration’s policies.
