“So over for Jessica Pegula”; “Nasty” – Fans react to WTA Finals 2026 draw with Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka & others

The draw for the 2026 WTA Finals was released on Tuesday, splitting the eight highest-ranked players of the season into two round-robin groups. The draw sparked plenty of discussion among tennis fans, with World No. 1 Elena Rybakina headlining one group as she bids to defend her title, while Aryna Sabalenka leads the other.

Group 1 features Rybakina, No. 4 seed Coco Gauff, No. 5 seed Jessica Pegula, and No. 8 Linda Noskova. Group 2 pairs Sabalenka with No. 3 seed Mirra Andreeva, No. 6 seed Elina Svitolina, and No. 7 seed Karolina Muchova. Each player will face the other three in a round-robin format, with the top two finishers from each group progressing to the semifinals.

Thanks for the submission!

Following the unveiling of the draw, much of the discourse centered on Group 1, which fans regarded as the tougher bracket. Pegula, in particular, earned grim predictions, having lost all six of her matches against the other three in 2026. She suffered three defeats to Rybakina (Australian Open, Indian Wells, Miami), two to Gauff (Wimbledon, Cincinnati), and one to Noskova in the Berlin final.

“GROUP 1 IS NASTY, MY GOODNESS,” one fan commented.

“It’s so over for jpeg bye,” another fan chimed in.

“Group 1 is TOUGH oof Jpeg might go 0-3 here,” said another.

Others read the same draw differently, asserting that Sabalenka had been handed a clear route to the semifinals as she chases a first title at the event, a year after finishing as the runner-up to Rybakina.

“Literally the best draw sabalenka could have got,” a user commented.

“Sabalenka has no excuse sorry x #strict,” another fan wrote.

“I have to rethink my stanning of sabalenka if she somehow fumbles this breather of a draw,” said yet another.

A look at Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka’s WTA Finals schedule

Elena Rybakina will get the WTA Finals underway on Sunday when she takes on Linda Noskova in their first meeting of 2026. Noskova faces a difficult challenge as Rybakina has won all three of their previous matches in straight sets.

The action will then shift to the highly anticipated battle between Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula. While their overall head-to-head is evenly poised at 5-5, Gauff has won both of their matches this season. The two Americans are set to meet at the year-end championships for the fourth year in a row, with Pegula enjoying a 2-1 record across the previous three meetings.

Aryna Sabalenka will commence proceedings on Day 2 by squaring off against Karolina Muchova, who is making her WTA Finals debut. Sabalenka secured a 6-3, 6-4 victory in their most recent encounter at the 2026 Brisbane International, but Muchova holds a narrow 3-2 lead in their head-to-head record.

Mirra Andreeva and Elina Svitolina close Monday’s singles schedule. Andreeva won the French Open this year and is making her tournament debut while Svitolina is the only former WTA Finals champion in Group 2. The clash will mark their third tour-level showdown, with both players having claimed a win apiece.
