WNBA fans exploded online after DeWanna Bonner did not join the Atlanta Dream‘s locker room after the Finals defeat against the Golden State Valkyries.
Game 7 of the Finals was a hard-fought game for the Dream and Valkyries. However, Golden State prevailed with a 68-63 victory. Following the win, the Atlanta players headed back to their locker room with their heads down.
Fans noticed that Bonner, who joined the Dream near the end of the regular season, was not present in the locker room with the team. Instead, the veteran star joined her partner, Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas, and headed in a different direction.
Fans pointed out that Bonner went in a different direction.
“Angel Reese did that to you,” a fan said.
“Zero surprise,” another fan commented.
“She is in search of the next made-ready team,” one fan said.
More fans commented on DeWanna Bonner not joining the team.
“That’s odd. Where did she go?” someone commented.
“Maybe she got traded to GSV in the final minutes of the game,” a fan joked.
“Little-known fact: Bonner signed with Golden State with less than one minute to play in Game 7,” one fan also joked about Bonner.
In Game 7, Bonner played 14 minutes off the bench and finished with four points, two rebounds and one assist.
DeWanna Bonner Made WNBA History in Game 7
DeWanna Bonner has been in the WNBA Finals five times throughout her career. In Game 7, she made history by becoming the first player to record 600 defensive rebounds in the playoffs.
“With her second rebound tonight, DeWanna Bonner has reached 600 career postseason defensive rebounds, becoming the first player in WNBA history to reach the milestone,” WNBA Communications wrote.
Bonner has also played 110 postseason games throughout her career.
Bonner was not expected to be in the Finals, especially when she started the 2026 season with the Mercury. However, when Phoenix was eliminated from the playoffs, the franchise bought out her contract, and she became an unrestricted free agent. This allowed the two-time champion to join the Dream and provide veteran experience.
DeWanna Bonner appeared in five regular-season games for Atlanta, averaging 8.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists. Unfortunately for Bonner, her pursuit to her third championship ended in heartbreak. Heading into the offseason, she will be an unrestricted free agent.
