WNBA fans lost it on X after seeing the Golden State Valkyries‘ reaction to commissioner Cathy Engelbert following the Finals.
Engelbert was at Chase Center on Saturday and presented the WNBA championship to Golden State. The players, however, were unable to control their reactions and displayed shocked expressions while she was holding the microphone.
Fans at the arena also booed the commissioner. As she received the microphone, Engelbert acknowledged the fans’ reaction and called them “Boohalla,” a play on the team’s home arena nickname, “Ballhalla.”
“Alright, Boohalla,” the commissioner said.
Fans online couldn’t contain their reactions, and they lost it on X.
“They really don’t like her,” a fan said.
“The boos were so loud,” another fan commented.
“No, I was laughing so hard at the tv bc they booed her as soon as she got the mic. You can see the players trying not to laugh,” one fan said.
More fans reacted to the reaction Engelbert received after the Valkyries’ WNBA championship win.
“One of the best parts of watching this game live was getting to witness Cathy get booed one last time…it was IMMEDIATE,” someone commented.
“Honestly, the one thing I’ll miss when Cathy is finally gone is the players’ reactions when she gets booed,” a comment read.
“Putting the boo in boohalla,” one fan commented.
The 2026 season is Engelbert’s final year in the WNBA. She announced in September that she is retiring as commissioner, and her final day in the position will be on Dec. 31, 2026.
Valkyries’ Coach Natalie Nakase Dropped an NSFW Comment After Winning the Title
Emotions were high for the Valkyries on Saturday. The players were in an excellent mood after defeating the Atlanta Dream on their home court, and even coach Natalie Nakase couldn’t contain herself. As the team prepared to celebrate, Nakase was interviewed, and she didn’t hold back.
Looking at the camera, she sent a strong and emphatic message to the Valkyries fans.
“And this is for all of the people that have been underrated, misunderstood; this is for all of y’all,” she said. “Because if you put all your heart and all your soul, you f**king win championships!”
Nakase was immediately in celebration mode after Golden State won the series. When she was asked if she thinks they have a shot at the title next season, she said this:
“Girl, I just need to get drunk tonight, so let me get there,” she said. “I ate this morning. I slept. Let’s just enjoy the moment.”
Nakase made WNBA history by becoming the first Asian-American head coach and the first to win a WNBA championship.
