Jacoby Brissett’s day ended early in Arlington, Texas. The Arizona Cardinals sent in Gardner Minshew late in the third quarter of Sunday’s 33-30 Week 8 overtime win over the Dallas Cowboys, with the team trailing 17-3.
At the time of the switch, Brissett was 10 of 23 for 119 yards with an interception. He had been sacked four times, including on back-to-back plays during the Cardinals’ previous offensive drive.

“W*f does Beck have to do to get a shot,” one fan said.
“FINALLY,” another added.
“Should have done this when he asked for $15m lol,” a third commented.
Here are a few more reactions.
“And the Cardinals immediately score. Jacoby Brissett, it’s over,” one wrote.
“He did all that this offseason just to get benched pretty much mid season,” another added.
Minshew gave Arizona an immediate jolt. He completed his first pass with about 1:35 left in the third quarter, and on the next play, Tyler Allgeier broke free for a 63-yard rushing touchdown that cut the deficit to one score.
Minshew finished 17 of 23 for 188 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those TDs came in the fourth quarter as Arizona (3-5) overcame a 14-point deficit in the final 11 minutes on the road.
Brissett began the 2026 season as the team’s unquestioned starter after playing well in relief of Kyler Murray last season. He had a 10-to-6 touchdown-to-interception ratio entering Week 8. Dallas had been allowing 25.7 points per game, which made his struggles harder to explain.
Why was Carson Beck not on the field for Arizona?

Carson Beck, a rookie, was inactive as the emergency third quarterback, according to the Cardinals’ game-day report. Under the NFL’s emergency-quarterback rule, a team can’t bring in that player just because it wants a change. The designation covers situations in which both active quarterbacks are injured or disqualified, so Minshew was next in line, not Beck.
Back spasms bothered Beck before the Denver game, but he was a full participant in practice Thursday and Friday. He carried no final designation against Dallas.
Arizona selected Beck No. 65 in April after he led Miami to the College Football Playoff championship game.
