BREAKING: WWE Legend Jumping Ship From AEW? Former World Champion Clarifies Status

The competition between WWE and AEW is fierce. The former is preparing to host Crown Jewel 2026, while the Tony Khan-led company’s next pay-per-view is Full Gear. A legend who appeared on the Jacksonville-based promotion recently revealed that he rejoined World Wrestling Entertainment.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts is one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. Tony Khan signed him in 2019, and he was with the company for several years. He left a few months ago, and in a recent appearance on The Nick Club Wrestling Happy Hour, he revealed that he rejoined the Stamford-based promotion. He eventually clarified his statement.

Roberts said that he rejoined WWE only to sign autographs. He in fact signed some autographs at SummerSlam 2026.

“Hey, Jake “The Snake” Roberts here. Of course you knew that. I’ve got something I need to talk to you about. Well, actually, two things. First thing is, I did a promo and talked to a fellow. I had a great time being interviewed by him. But I talked about going back to work for WWE, yeah, in some capacity. And that capacity is real simple: signing autographs. Yeah, I went to SummerSlam and signed some autographs, and I do some Topps cards here and there. I enjoy doing it, just coming out and seeing you guys, signing autographs for you, and taking pictures. That’s all there is. I’m not under contract by any way, shape, or form,” he said.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts says that AEW president Tony Khan could use his talent better

In the interview mentioned above, Roberts said that even though AEW is great, Tony Khan needs to loosen up a bit and listen to advice. He even called Khan a sweet guy.

“There’s a lot of differences. Creative number one, no doubt. Tony Khan needs to loosen up the reins a little bit and take some advice. He’s got a good product. He’s got a lot of talent there. I think his talent can be used better. Just my own thoughts. I loved working for Tony Khan. They’ll wish you nothing but the best. He’s a sweet guy,” he said. [H/T: Fightful]

Only time will tell what the future holds for the legend. Perhaps he will return to AEW someday.
