“It didn’t help him when he fought me” – Paddy Pimblett takes dig at former opponent while defending his fight camp discipline

Paddy Pimblett has defended his approach to training after facing criticism for his dramatic weight fluctuations outside fight camp. The UFC lightweight believes people mistake his relaxed lifestyle between fights for a lack of discipline.

Speaking about the criticism on the How U Livin J Piven podcast, Pimblett insisted that he follows a meticulous routine once a fight is scheduled. He revealed that his preparation typically involves a 10-week camp, carefully planned meals, three to four hours of daily training and additional running to ensure he makes weight:

“When people say, ‘Oh, he’s unprofessional. He’s undisciplined,’ and I am the most disciplined fighter ever. When it comes to a fight camp, everything is done meticulously and religiously in fight camp for 10 weeks. I get all meals to eat and I train like 3 or 4 hours a day and I run as well. I have to do everything meticulously right to get my weight on point. And because of that I think I’m the most disciplined fighter out there. For them, like, when I’m out of camp, I’ll do what I want. Yeah, I’ll do what I want. And people see that and they go, ‘Oh, okay.’ Well, yeah, but I’m not in camp. I’d want to actually have a life as well.”

“Like I look at Michael Chandler. I fought him, but he is in fight camp 24/7. He’s always eating his diet meals off his sponsors and stuff and he’s always in shape. But it didn’t help him when he fought me. … Everyone does until you get in there with them. You know what I mean?”

Paddy Pimblett plans to bring old feud with Ilia Topuria back into spotlight

Paddy Pimblett is already planning how to get under Ilia Topuria‘s skin if the two rivals are ever booked to fight in the UFC.

The pair had a heated confrontation at a London hotel in 2022, when Pimblett threw a hand sanitizer bottle at Topuria before security intervened. The Liverpool native revealed that he still has the exact bottle, which he has since signed and displayed at his gym.

Speaking on the How U Livin J Piven podcast, Pimblett said he wants Topuria to be his next opponent:

“I hope [Ilia is next], I hate him. He got a push because of the stuff with me. He got pushed fast through the rankings because of it. No one knew who he was. I’ve always got that exact bottle of hand sanitizer that I threw at his head… I’ve signed it and now it’s just sat in the gym. So, if I do ever fight him and have a press conference with him, that will be coming with me. And I’ll just sit it on the desk. It’ll be quite funny.”
