Former WWE United States Champion Ilja Dragunov recently joined AEW. The Mad Dragon is one of the most talented and dominant in-ring competitors in the modern era. He wrestled Mercedes Mone’s real-life boyfriend on this week’s Collision and, after defeating him, sent him a message on X.
Ilja Dragunov vs. the Beast Mortos was the highlight of this week’s Collision. Both wrestlers brought their best, and it seems like they will lock horns again someday. Mortos is the real-life boyfriend of the reigning AEW Women’s World Champion Mercedes Mone. Despite doing everything in his power, he failed to defeat the former WWE star.
Dragunov was pleased to defeat the luchador. He sent him a message on X after his triumph. The Mad Dragon wrote that there is nothing personal between him and Mortos, and it’s just his passion for professional wrestling that turns him into a force to be reckoned with in the squared circle.
“Nothing personal. Just my devotion to professional wrestling 🤌🏼,” he wrote.
Dragunov is one of the biggest names in All Elite Wrestling. He might become the promotion’s World Champion someday.
Ilja Dragunov wants to participate in this year’s AEW Continental Classic
In a recent interview with Arkady Aura and Lexy Nair, Dragunov said that he wants to be a part of the Continental Classic tournament because it needs strength, grit, intensity, and integrity. But he knows everything depends on management.
“So this tournament represents mental toughness. Because as far as I remember, all these people went through injuries, through setbacks, through really memorable moments…this tournament is representing strength, resilience, and I feel like the landscape of AEW is about to change. Why? Because I am here. So if you talk about strength, about grit, and especially resilience and intensity, and something memorable and emotional to happen? It would be second-hand embarrassing to take away that chance for the people, for me to maybe not be there. But I’m not the person to make the decision,” he said.
Only time will tell what the future holds for Ilja Dragunov. He could have a match at Full Gear.
