TheBurntPeanut and Dead by Daylight controversy, explained

This post was originally published on this site.

Twitch streamer TheBurntPeanut has once again garnered attention on social media for controversial reasons after he received free Dead by Daylight in-game items. During the Halloween livestream on October 30, 2026, TheBurntPeanut collaborated with CoconutB and Cloakzy to play Dead by Daylight.

At one point, the content creator’s live audience told him to check his in-game mailbox. He then discovered that the Dead by Daylight team had granted him access to every character and skin in the game.

The gesture was not well received by the online community present on X, as user @EveElleQueen wrote:

“this is why im continuing to step further away from Dead by Daylight. Problematic licenses and then rewarding homophobic and racist people with products? This is embarassing, especially since there are still AMAZING creators who you haven’t been approved into your program yet who have devoted their careers to DbD.” X user @EveElleQueen posted.

TheBurntPeanut responds to backlash after Dead by Daylight team gave him every character in the game

During a livestream on October 31, 2026, TheBurntPeanut addressed the criticisms after receiving every character in Dead by Daylight.

In response to those accusing him of being “racist” and “transphobic,” the Twitch streamer said:

“I see everybody’s ****** at us for getting those free skins in Dead by Daylight. There’s one guy that submitted a refund, and in the refund reason box, they go, ‘TheBurntPeanut collaboration and the response of the game’s communication team – I do not support racist transphobes.’ I don’t think I’ve ever said anything about transgender people, I think, in the last two and a half years of streaming. Have I said anything about transgender people? Where are they getting this stuff?! Where? How is this even possible? I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned that, ever!”

“Threatening employees will never be acceptable” – Dead by Daylight issues statement amid TheBurntPeanut controversy

On November 1, 2026, Dead by Daylight issued a statement on X in response to the TheBurntPeanut controversy.

While acknowledging that an employee provided the streamer with in-game content and currency, Dead by Daylight stated that “this decision was made without receiving appropriate approvals”:

“This weekend, a Dead by Daylight team member awarded in-game content and currency to a creator streaming our game. Although it is not unusual to unlock content to give creators discovering DbD a chance to have a sneak peek at available content, this decision was made without receiving appropriate approvals. Furthermore, the team member’s subsequent comments and conduct do not align with Dead by Daylight’s core values. When concerns about this decision became apparent during the stream, we should have responded by looking into these concerns, not dismissing them.”

Dead by Daylight then stated that it was “heartbroken at the inflammatory language being directed towards” its community, adding that “threatening employees will never be acceptable”:

“Unfortunately, we’ve now seen the fallout of this decision unfolding in many conversations across the DbD community. We appreciate and stand with our community’s willingness to ensure our shared values are being upheld, at all times, regardless of popularity, and we’re heartbroken at the inflammatory language now being directed towards our community. At the same time, threatening employees will never be acceptable, and we’re asking everyone to stop engaging with these posts.”

Dead by Daylight also issued an apology to its community for “letting them down”:

“We apologize to our community for letting you down. We have already begun reviewing our internal processes to prevent an incident like this from happening again.”

As of this writing, TheBurntPeanut has not commented on Dead by Daylight’s response to the controversy.
