The WNBA Finals will remain at State Farm Arena, with the Dream hosting Game 6. In most sports leagues, the Finals are played at the grandest available venue, but that was not the case in Atlanta.
They faced scheduling issues for Games 3 and 4 of the Finals. In the end, Game 4’s timing was moved up to accommodate the Hawks’ season opener. According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, Game 6 saw the same arrangements.
According to the writer, Game 6 of the WNBA Finals will be played at State Farm Arena on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. ET. An X user shared the news, flooding the comments section.
“They weren’t expecting the Dream to be in the finals, it sounds like,” one fan said.
“This is terrible. Has to be the last year anything like this ever happens,” another fan said.
“Finals game at 12:30 on a Thursday is a crime 😭,” another fan commented.
More reactions followed:
“The concept of winning the championship on a Thursday at 12:30 is absolutely insane,” one fan commented.
“WNBA champion potentially being crowned while everybody is at work or school. This league is sad,” another fan commented.
“When people say the WNBA is an unserious league, this is what they mean… how are you gonna let Game 6 of your finals be played at noon… and screw the NBA and Hawks not helping them out with the scheduling,” another fan commented.
The Cavaliers are playing the Hawks at the State Farm Arena on the same day as Game 6. That game has been moved from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET to accommodate.
Fever writer gives solution for Atlanta Dream’s arena scheduling issues
Fever writer Robin Lundberg shared his thoughts on the Dream’s arena scheduling issues. He shared his solution to the issues on X on Monday.
“I have a solution: The Atlanta Dream play Game 6 in their normal home arena. Everyone else (including their opponents) probably shouldn’t have to move heaven and earth because they weren’t prepared for this scenario,” he tweeted.
The Dream have played most of their regular-season games at the Gateway Center Arena, which has a capacity of just over 3,500 fans. It is a significantly smaller audience than the State Farm Arena’s over-16,500 capacity.
Atlanta has to play Game 6 to stay alive and force a Game 7, or win the championship, depending on the results of Game 5.
