Pat McAfee made headlines on Monday when he decried his recent College GameDay visit to the University of Utah as “uncomfortable”. Now, the apparent reason for it has been revealed.
Later that day, a video was released of various students at Utah being asked to do an impression of the former Indianapolis Colts punter-turned-ESPN host.

“Dude is the biggest prima donna on TV right now,” one proclaimed.
“Absolute TODDLER level soft,” another sneered.
“He’s always been incredibly thin-skinned for a guy that wildly throws around accusations of other people,” another reminisced.
“You soft as heck, dude,” one yelled.
“Huge L for Pat here,” another concluded.
“I don’t know how he recovered from such a vicious attack. ESPN should give him another raise for his bravery,” another sarcastically recommended.
The university subsequently issued this apology about the dissemination of the video:
“Our goal during the visit was to create light-hearted engagement regarding Pat being back on campus, but we missed the mark. University staff are responsible for reviewing and posting content on official social media accounts and we take full accountability for that decision.
“University officials have reached out to Pat to express appreciation and regret. Pat and the entire GameDay crew are always welcome at the University of Utah and we deeply appreciate the opportunity ESPN provides to showcase our university and our community.”
ESPN defends Pat McAfee after College GameDay host receives death threats
Pat McAfee‘s tirade, which included a reference to the September 2025 assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, garnered him plenty of death threats. In response, a spokeswoman for ESPN issued this statement:
“The safety and security of our on-air team, crew and fans is paramount at College GameDay. We are committed to ensuring a safe environment, and given the very real threats that members of our team face, we take issues involving their safety seriously. We support Pat and recognize the very real and valid concerns he has around safety and security.”
McAfee and the College GameDay crew will next visit Indiana University for the Hoosiers’ Halloween game vs. the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
